Firefighters in Mullica Township battled a backyard blaze for an hour Saturday.
The cause of the fire in the 4100
block of Anna Drive is under investigation, but it appears it started
in a garage where a vehicle was being worked on, Elwood Fire Chief
Anthony Tomasco said.
Those working on the car were
apparently using a welder, Tomasco said. Sparks likely started a
smoldering, which later became a full fire, he said. Propane tanks were
inside the garage, so "they were probably popping off," he added.
When firefighters arrived at 3:54 p.m., the garage and nearby sheds were on fire, Tomasco said. The fire was under control by about 4:50 p.m.
Elwood, Sweetwater, Weekstown,
Nesco, Hammonton, Germania, Laureldale and Egg Harbor City fire
companies responded, in large part to truck in water, Tomasco said.http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/communities/hammonton_egg-harbor-city/mullica-township-fire-may-have-been-sparked-by-welder/article_ef77be72-ee1e-11e5-bf6f-874fa14343f8.html
