Delsea Drive-In Is Open
VINELAND — New Jersey's last drive-in movie theater opened up for the season this month — giving moviegoers a unique way to watch their blockbusters.
The Delsea Drive-In was built in 1949 and continues a mid-20th century tradition that started in New Jersey but can now only be found in Vineland.
There are two screens at the drive-in — with the main screen being 100-feet-wide and 50-feet-tall. A second screen was added in 2008.
The season opening for the drive-in was on March 18 and shows first-run movies, including this week's premiere of "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice," which is being paired with the superhero movie "Deadpool" in a double feature.
Patrons park their car in front of the screen and, while either sitting in their car or on a lawn chair outside, listen to the movie on their radios.
Show times start at dusk.
The drive-in movie tradition started in Pennsauken in 1933 and used to be found by the thousands across the country before the practice went into decline.
The Delsea Drive-located theater closed in 1987 but was reopened by Dr. John DeLeonardis and his wife Jude in 2004.

Drive-ins were favorites of mine in high school for obvious reasons. Don't forget "The Circus" drive-in in Mullica. Maybe it can be revived. I think that the property is owned by Franks Theaters.
What a good time we had there.
