Viking & Egg Harbor Group Buy Ocean Yachts

Ocean Yachts will continue to sail on.

The Egg Harbor Group, which owns some of the country’s best-known yacht brands, is adding the Ocean Yachts flag to its fleet, officials from both companies said Friday.
Dr. Ira Trocki, The Egg Harbor Group’s owner, said his company is buying “the name, the engineering, the molds, the customer list” of Ocean Yachts, adding later that the purchase includes everything “except the building and the liability.”
John Leek IV, whose grandfather founded Ocean Yachts in 1977 and whose family has built boats on the Mullica River for 14 generations, confirmed the purchase.

“Viking is essentially buying our factory, and Egg Harbor is buying the trade name and most of the Ocean Yacht molds,” Leek said.

A spokesman for Viking Yachts, of New Gretna, had previously said the company planned to buy Ocean Yachts’ production facilities but was “not buying the product line. ... We would build Vikings there.”

Trocki’s Egg Harbor Group includes Egg Harbor Yachts, Silverton Yachts, Topaz, Predator and Buddy Davis Yachts.
“I’m very proud to be the owner of some of the best brands in the world,” Trocki said Friday.
“We’re going to continue the tradition of Ocean Yachts, the great yachts with that Ocean name,” he said later, adding that the company recently unveiled a new model, a 64-foot Makaira.
