MTPD Vehicle Chase on Rt30

On January 28, 2016 at approximately 11:04AM Corporal O'Hara was on routine patrol in a marked police vehicle traveling east on Route 30 near Burdick Ave. Corporal O'Hara observed in the distance a black vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. He then activated his radar device and clocked the vehicle at 90MPH. The vehicle continued on traveling westbound erratically weaving between cars. Corporal O’Hara turned around and began to follow, the Vehicle accelerated in an attempt to elude the officer. O’Hara came up to the bend in the road and observed the driver had struck the utility pole at the intersections of Route30 and Moss Mill Road. The police vehicle was placed behind the vehicle involved in the accident to alert motorist. While O'Hara's car was behind the Jetta it continued to roll backwards and strike the patrol unit. He went to check on the status of the driver. The driver appeared to have a broken arm and was identified as Damir S. James of Pemberton NJ. Hammonton police department arrived on scene to handle the accident. Medical services were called and responded to the scene to render aide. They transported Mr. James to the hospital and police impounded his vehicle. He was subsequently charged with eluding and multiple motor vehicle violations.
