Wharton Road Closure Meeting At Hammonton HS Tonight 6:30 pm

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection is trying again to develop a plan for closing some trails of Wharton State Forest to motor-vehicle traffic, and supporters and opponents of the concept will weigh in Thursday night during a public hearing at Hammonton High School.

More than 500 people have preregistered to attend the hearing, which is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the school on Old Forks Road in Hammonton, Atlantic County. DEP officials said the hearing is being held so the department can receive input and ideas for developing a Motorized Access Plan for hundreds of miles of trails within Wharton, which spans more than 125,000 acres within Burlington, Camden and Atlantic counties.
