N.J. Travel Alert

New Jerseyans should be alert to the possible travel risks, especially during Thanksgiving, following increased terrorist threats around the world, the State Department warned.
And New Jersey and the Port Authority are responding by clamping down on major travel destinations and travel routes.
A travel alert, which is to be in effect until Feb. 24, said current information suggests that militants with the Islamic State, al-Qaida, Boko Haram and other terrorist groups continue to plan attacks in multiple regions

The Port Authority released a statement:
As the Thanksgiving holiday weekend approaches, the Port Authority Police Department remains on heightened alert at all of the agency’s bridge, tunnel, rail, World Trade Center and other facilities, following the recent tragic terrorism incidents in Paris and elsewhere. Actions include increased patrols and checks of bags, buses, trucks and trains at agency locations. Travelers also are reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to police or other authorities.
