THE GADFLY-In Memory of Larry Angel: Fatal Toll Plaza Crash

An Atlantic County man died when a car Friday morning struck the Atlantic City Expressway Toll Plaza in Hamilton Township and became engulfed in flames, said New Jersey State Police who are at the scene.

Joseph Crawford, 39 of Egg Harbor City, was pronounced dead, State Police spokesman Lt. Brian Polite said.

Polite said the crash happened 10:30 a.m. as a vehicle was traveling west through the toll plaza.

The vehicle caught fire after it struck the toll plaza, he said.

There was one person in the vehicle when it struck the toll plaza and caught fire, he said.
