9/11 Remembered


BEAUTIFUL TRIBUTE: A day before the 14th anniversary of 9/11, a rainbow emerged from World Trade Center and stretched across Manhattan.  A beautiful tribute as we all pause to remember those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.







ATLANTIC COUNTY

 
Atlantic City: 10 a.m., Jackson Avenue and Boardwalk, ceremony with former Miss Americas Suzette Charles and Lee Meriwether. Sand Pipers Pipes and Drums will perform. Mayor Don Guardian will pay tribute to 9-11 victim Victor Saracini, and John Heenan will pay tribute to John O’Neil. Firefighters will officially donate World Trade Center steel to the memorial.

Atlantic City: 8:45 a.m., flag ceremony, Pledge of Allegiance, remarks and music, Atlantic County Civil Courts Building, 1201 Bacharach Blvd.

Egg Harbor City: 5:30 p.m., American Legion Post 158 and city officials dedicate a plaque commemorating the piece of the World Trade Center placed at City Hall on Sept. 11, 2014.   

    Egg Harbor Township: 6 p.m. Farmington Volunteer Fire Company’s dedication ceremony for its 9/11 memorial, firehouse, Maple Avenue off Doughty Road. With township, county and state officials. Call 609-377-9431.

    Hamilton Township: 7 p.m. ceremony, Memorial Park at Main Street and Route 50, Mays Landing. Col. Anthony M. LaSure is keynote speaker. A candlelighting ceremony concludes the event.

    Margate: 10-11 a.m., Fire Department ceremony with local clergy, music tributes, comments by local dignitaries and speech by Fire Chief Anthony Tabasso, Margate City Fire Department Station 1, 1 S. Washington Ave.

    Somers Point: 8:30 a.m. Remembrance ceremony at Patriots Park, Bethel Road and First Street. American Legion Riders will pass under American flag suspended from Somers Point Volunteer Fire Department ladder trucks. Keynote speaker will be local resident Michael Corbo, retired deputy chief of the Pleasantville Fire Department and instructor at the Atlantic County Fire Academy.

     Ventnor: 8:30-9:15 a.m. Bridge of Faith, a multifaith clergy group, invites the community to a nondenominational gathering at Congregation Beth Judah, 700 N. Swarthmore Ave. Fellowship with light refreshments follows service. To RSVP, call 609-822-7116, ext. 101.
