Cumberland County Helps Lenni-Lenape Buy Land

THOMAS BARLAS, Staff Writer
FAIRFIELD TOWNSHIP — Cumberland County will spend $40,000 to help bring the Nanticoke Lenni Lenape Tribal Nation once again hold its annual powwow in the county.
The money will help the trial nation buy a 24-acre parcel of land on Westcott Station Road here for annual event, which officials said could draw up to 10,000 tourists.
The site will also contain a raptor recovery center and a replica Lenni Lenape village, according to a resolution passed Tuesday by the Cumberland County Board of Chosen Freeholders.
The money will come from the county’s Farmland and Open Space Trust.
The tribal nation has held its annual powwow in Salem County for about 25 years.
