HAMMONTON — The group that has led the resurgence of downtown is holding its first-ever Hammonton Food Truck Festival June 12.
MainStreet Hammonton is bringing
in at least 20 trucks selling “street eats” from Pennsylvania and
Maryland, as well as around New Jersey, said Executive Director Cassie
Iacovelli.
Iacovelli said younger volunteers
in town spearheaded the idea, while MainStreet committees saw it as a
chance to attract big crowds and incorporate the Arts District.
The Noyes Museum on Second Street
will be running a “Starving Artists Fair” during the festival, she
said, selling regionally made art goods. So far 22 artists are signed
up, she said.
Iacovelli has consulted with Sea Isle City, which runs its Food Truck Rally June 26-28, and a food truck festival in September.
She also has attended the festivals in Florida, where food trucks are very popular, she said.
“The way it has blown up on
social media, we’re expecting a pretty good crowd,” Iacovelli said.
“We’ll have the best food trucks in the area.”
Two trucks will focus on gourmet grilled cheese, and three specialize in seafood.
Hammonton’s local Tacos Al Carbon
truck will be there, along with other regional favorites like Tony
Boloney’s Mustache Mobile for cheesesteaks, The Cow and The Curd for
“fresh-battered cheese curds,” and Di-Verge for “black and bleu fish
tacos ... and brick-pressed sandwiches.”
Top Shelf Mobile Cuisine will be
in a new truck, built by Hammonton’s Custom Mobile Food Equipment,
serving specialties like rack of lamb crusted with herbs and spices,
with garlic confit; or Himalayan salt plank seared scallop sliders, with
baby arugula and peach mango salsa.
There will also be live musical entertainment.
The South Jersey cover band, Stealing Savanah, will perform a mix of rock, pop, top 40 and dance music on Central Avenue.
Live acoustic guitar music will
be offered on Second Street near the Noyes Museum, and “DJ Jilly Lynn”
will entertain along North Egg Harbor Road.
Annata Wine Bar on Bellevue Avenue will offer drink specials, and downtown shops and restaurants will run sales and discounts.
