Police Warning About Facebook Posts

PUBLIC SERVICE WARNING:
There is a post being shared around social media, supposedly honoring Mother's Day, asking you to post your children's names and birthdays along with other information.   We are whole heartedly in favor of showing mothers the love and respect that they deserve on this special day, however posting this information publicly can lead to serious problems.
Identity thieves, hackers, stalkers, and other individuals looking to cause harm can use information like this to find additional information about you and your kids. Many sites and companies require personal information, such as your date of birth, to grant access to lost log in information. With your information, people seeking to do harm could potentially have everything that they need to cause serious issues.
Please keep you and your kid's information safe. Don't make it easy for people who intend to do harm by posting this information.

The warning comes as a Mother's Day trend sweeps across the social media site in which moms have been posting their children's full names, birthdays, weights, heights, time of birth and other personal details and encouraging others to do the same as a tribute to their little ones.
Several police departments, including Franklin Township in Somerset County, have issued alerts strongly recommending that parents avoid participating
