Public Forums On Atlantic County

By MICHELLE BRUNETTI POST, Staff Writer
The final two public forums on diversifying Atlantic County’s economy will be held next week in Atlantic City and Hammonton.

The forums are a way for residents and business owners to tell consultant AngelouEconomics, county government and the Atlantic County Improvement Authority their ideas for attracting new industries and higher paying jobs to the county.
Meanwhile, about 850 people have completed surveys on what direction the county should take. The vast majority have been completed online, but hard copies are available at all county libraries, said county spokeswoman Linda Gilmore.
Gilmore said the surveys will only be open until March 27, and anyone who has not completed one should do so soon at atlanticcountyactionnow.com. The county hopes to get at least 1,000 surveys completed, she said.
There will be a public forum at the Atlantic City Convention Center, from 6 pm. to 8 p.m. March 23. Parking at the Convention Center will be free. Participants can get their parking tickets validated at the event, said Gilmore.
Another will be held 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. March 24 at the Eagle Theatre in Hammonton.
The forums follow one held in February at Atlantic Cape Community College in Mays Landing. About 100 people attended despite cold, snowy weather.
“Upon the conclusion of these forums, the AngelouEconomics team will be hard at work in preparing the plan with the information they have received and their own research,” said County Executive Dennis Levinson. “We are adhering to a very aggressive timeline and expect to receive the plan in July with a September roll-out.”
