Dr. Syed A. Jaffery Has 40 Potential Victims

Dr. Syed A. Jaffery, an Egg Harbor Township neurologist, was charged Tuesday with inappropriately touching at least three patients, police said.

Egg Harbor Township neurologist Dr. Syed A. Jaffery faces dozens more charges of sexual contact, sexual assault and harassment during a continuing investigation, township police said this morning.

On Thursday, authorities served additional warrants on Jaffery, who was charged with one count of sexual assault, 20 counts of sexual contact, 13 counts of harassment by offensive touching and three counts of lewdness, police said.

   

During the investigation, township police said 40 potential victims have called police to speak with detectives regarding Jaffery. Of them, 28 people came to police station to give statements and 22 people had chargeable offenses.

Another six alleged offenses occurred beyond the statute of limitations, police said.

Township Lt. Robert Gray said the additional victims and allegations all came after the announcement of Jaffery’s first arrest on similar charges in December.

All the victims were woman and all the alleged offenses took place during doctor’s visits, he said.

Bail was set at $100,000 cash by Superior Court Judge Mark Sandson.

Jaffery turned himself in, posted bail was released pending court.

A woman who answered the phone at his Egg Harbor Township practice this morning said Jaffery was on a leave of absence and not available.

In December, investigators for the state Attorney General’s Office and Egg Harbor Township officers served an arrest warrant at Jaffery’s office and charged him with three counts of criminal sexual contact.

Authorities have said the investigation began months ago on allegations the doctor had sexual contact with them during medical examinations in his office.
