New Jersey was awarded $29.4 million in National Emergency Grant
funds for workforce training and education programs for people displaced
by the Atlantic City casino closings, U.S. Department of Labor
officials announced Tuesday.
New Jersey Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo said in a news release that the
grant would play a major role in re-establishing a “strong economic
footing” in the Atlantic County area.
Mazzeo, who sponsored a resolution urging the U.S. Department of
Labor to expedite a grant to assist workers impacted by recent Atlantic
City casino closures, said New Jersey has a vested interest in ensuring
that the thousands of people who lost their jobs when Revel, Showboat,
Trump Plaza, the Atlantic Club and related businesses closed are
prepared for employment in other fields.
In addition to the direct economic implications of the grant, there
is a personal pride and dignity that comes with working, he said.
“I look forward to continued cooperation with those at the state and
federal levels as we move closer toward our shared goal of restoring the
Atlantic City region,” Mazzeo continued.
“I am grateful to have had the support of Sens. Cory Booker and Bob
Menendez as they led New Jersey’s congressional delegation in securing
these funds.”

I hope Mazzeo, Booker & Menendez follow every penny of this money and make sure the people get training. If the Christie cronies take control, there might be the same problems as with the hurricane Sandy victims. Years later, they are still waiting for help from the federal funds.
