ATLANTIC CITY -  Billionaire investor Carl Icahn is saving Atlantic City's Trump Taj Mahal, according to a report by the New York Post.

The nearly 25-year-old casino was in danger of closing this Saturday, which would have placed 3,000 people out of work.

Earlier this week, the CEO of Trump Entertainment Resorts asked Icahn to keep the casino open well into 2015, while a union challenge to a court-ordered cost-cutting plan plays out.

Two unnamed sources tell the Post, Icahn saved the casino on Wednesday night and conceded to the demands of the union to restore all work rules, after previously agreeing to restoring just health care.

Yes, Mr Icahn refused to sign on at the last minute and it left Whelan,Sweeney and Guardian in shock. Pity the poor employees who are going on a very traumatic emotional roller coaster. Mr Icahn holds all the cards here. After all wasn't it in the Nov rally in front of the Taj this November that a brash and defiant Sweeney who called Icahn a few names and told him he {Icahn) wouldn't get one red cent from the state?Sweeney looks like a complete fool in this. Our Gov. who also signed on is now getting ready to join the Dallas Cowboys this weekend but when he returns he will go along with the next deal even though the State got burned with the Revel bailout.
I see the Taj on life support for awhile longer but with the shrinking casino market here and the Marina district casinos pulling the crowd all this legislation will come to nothing in the end to save the inner city casinos.
Keep up the good work Gadfly and Merry Christmas.
