Hadley Receives Suspended Sentence

A former Egg Harbor City police officer who admitted using his position to have a sexual relationship with a confidential informant received a five year suspended sentence Friday.
Steven Hadley, 32, of Port Republic, was originally charged with four counts on Sept. 24, 2013, but after a guilty plea last month, three were dismissed.
The 10-year veteran also forfeited his right to public service as well as the rights to his pension.
He appeared before Atlantic County Superior Court Judge Michael Donio Friday.

Because of his hardship – in being confined to a wheelchair – along with his cooperation, guilty plea and public service, Donio said imprisonment would be a serious injustice.
The forfeiture of his pension and future public service, as well as his ability for any future employment being harmed due to his condition, are enough to satisfy the charges.
