Four South Jersey
men have admitted to illegal dumping in state parks and recreational
lands in Atlantic County this summer, according to the state Department
of Environmental Protection.
DEP officials said the program
thus far has resulted in 28 arrests or enforcement actions. The program
is a coordinated effort by several DEP agencies, including the State
Forestry Service and Natural Lands Trust, they said. Those agencies were
aided by what the DEP said were motion-sensor cameras positioned in
selected state parks and wildlife management areas, they said.
- Brian K. Rosario, 18, of Egg
Harbor Township, pleaded guilty to, and paid a $500 fine for, dumping
solid waste at the Hammonton Creek Wildlife Management Area in Mullica
Township in July. Part of the waste included pressure-treated lumber.
- Lyndon Long, 48, of Millville,
pleaded guilty to, and paid a $400 fine for, dumping construction debris
at Makepeace Wildlife Management Area in Hamilton Township in July.
- Clarence Mays III, 29, of
Hammonton, pleaded guilty to, and paid a $250 fine for, dumping solid
waste at Makepeace Wildlife Management Area in June.
- Christopher J. Daraklis, 18, of
Absecon, pleaded guilty to, and paid an $800 fine for, dumping
construction debris at the Port Republic Wildlife Management Area in
Atlantic County in September.
DEP officials said illegal
dumping — including everything from construction debris, televisions,
computer, car parts, tires and even entire vehicles — has increased on
state lands in all 21 counties in New Jersey in recent years.

These seem like small fines.
