E-Mail To The Gadfly 10/1/14
I was upset and angry as I drove through Mullica today.
While we are lucky to have five candidates running for the Mullica School Board, the people are supposed to be non-partisan. Political connections should not be a factor in any of the Board's decisions.
All the homes with MULTIPLE Republican Candidate signs in Sweetwater, Nesco, and Weekstown also have a sign up for Sue Muessig as a Board of Education candidate in their array.
This is totally unacceptable!
We all know that the Republicans handed out business cards to write in Lori Kelly on the ballot three years ago but this is a "in your face" demonstration of a political party backing of a school board candidate.
While Ms. Muessig might have had the qualifications I was looking for in a candidate, this display of political connection has lost her my vote. I hope many more people are as outraged as I am and vote for three of the other four candidates.

This is very unfair to the other four candidates who don't have a club,organization or personal finances to buy signs for all over town. I agree with the poster that it looks very bad. I will choose 3 from the 4 left.
Not only does it look bad but it could cause hard feelings among the five,three of which will have to work together.
They are not even elected yet and there could be wedge between them.
This was a BAD idea that will have consequences.
I agree with both of the earlier posters. But can't help to wonder if the signs weren't with the Republicans candiates and with the Dems intead like (Rheault, Strokes or Booker,etc), if there would be any clamor?
This has going on in Mullica for many years and is nothing new. If you want to be assured of a seat on the school board in Mullica, you need the backing of the Republican Club, and it doesn't matter if the voters know what you stand for or what your qualifications are for the post. We have a bunch of lemmings living in this township.

It's been rare elections when we even had a choice of candidates. Our residents have seen the damage that can be done to a town and there is a new awareness of how important it is to have independent thinkers on the BoE.
I'm so glad we have people running who want to make a change and question how things are done.
I can only hope that the Mullica voters realize that they too need to become independent thinkers and put the town's welfare above any party affiliation.
This goes for the committee,too. We don't need more "yes" men to fill empty chairs. We need people who will make decisions to benefit Mullica, not the County or a privileged few.

There are years of records of selective enforcement against the Dems in this town and a blind eye toward the Repubs.

A BoE candidate can run a campaign just like a politician. As long as Ms Muessig has a "paid by" line on her signs and fills out all the contribution forms required by law(even if she uses her own funds)she can put her signs anywhere that allows them.
The other candidates can do the same thing if they wish.

Sorry, 1:14, but that is not what the 9:42 am poster said. He or she insinuated that if the signs were predominantly on "Democratic" household lawns that there would be no clamor, in other words, that the original poster's complaint was just politically motivated. But, unlike the Republican Club always actively picking and supporting certain school board members for election, that is not and has never been the case in the past with the local Democratic Party picking or backing candidates so it's a red herring.

From the posts here it seems that politics has always been involved in the school board. Since the people want a change in the way things are done, maybe the Democratic Party should start getting involved in sponsoring candidates.
It's a shame that good, non-partisan people without funding or backing are basically shut out of races now that signage and advertizing has started.
