Donations To Local Groups


It's good to know that money you donate to local causes will help your community.  You should investigate where your money goes if you give to large Foundations or Organizations.

An example being,
While donating time or money to the research of breast cancer is worthwhile, you may want to look into donating to a different charity than the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. While Sunday’s Race for the Cure in New York raised roughly $3 million, only 20 percent of that will be used for cancer research. A portion of the donations goes directly to CEO Nancy Brinker’s pocket, giving a new head-scratching definition of a “non-profit” organization.
  More and more the donation money goes to Brinker every year, who has voted to give herself a raise year after year and makes $684,000 annually.

There are many large organizations where only pennies on your dollar are given to the cause you to want to support.  The rest of your money is spent on administration costs of the charity.
By giving to local causes, your dollars help your neighbors, not rich CEO's
