Dashboard video cameras on police cars are expensive, but worth every cent in the long run, say chiefs in local departments now equipped with the devices.
A law signed by Gov. Chris Christie last month has made the technology mandatory for new patrol vehicles.
The
law provides a $25 surcharge on DWI convictions to pay for the $5,000
cameras, but some police worry that the fee won’t be nearly enough to
cover their department’s costs of implementing the mandate.
