Voice Of The People - Henry C. Denmead

Racetrack sports bets will hurt Atlantic City

Gov. Chris Christie's decision to allow sports betting at casinos and racetracks will be another dagger to the heart of Atlantic City and our county.

We've already lost many gambling patrons from surrounding states. Illegally expanding gambling to racetracks will cost Atlantic City many New Jersey patrons as well.

If our governor is going to disregard federal law by allowing sports betting, he should at least follow state law and confine it to Atlantic City. Apparently there is no federal law, state law, negotiated contract or judge he will not toss aside.

Picture people flocking to Atlantic City to wager on the Super Bowl or March Madness. That won't happen if they can go to the nearest track.
