Florida Killer Arrested in Mullica in 1987

 Officials in Atlantic County confirm that the Florida man who shot and killed six of his grandchildren along with his daughter before turning the gun on himself, has a criminal record here in New Jersey.

Authorities say 51 year-old Donald C. Spirit, a South Jersey native, was arrested in May of 1987 in Mullica Township for Possession of a Prohibited Weapon or Device.  Spirit, who was indicted on that charge, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 20 days in jail, fines, and a year of probation. Officials could not provide any specifics regarding the circumstances of the arrest or charges.
