Waszen Has 30 Days Before Arrest

“This is the end of the line, sir,” said Superior Court Judge Julio Mendez, as he handed down his latest ruling Wednesday in a case that has continued for three years.

Last month, Mendez ordered Waszen clean up his Tremont Avenue facility within 30 days as a $500-per-day fine accrued against him. But Waszen told Mendez he was unable to raise funding for the work, which he estimated would cost between $25,000 and $30,000.

Mendez ruled that the operator of Magic Disposal must provide Atlantic County with a list of equipment that can be sold to raise money for mitigation work within five days, dispose of tires left on the property within two weeks and clean up the rest of the facility within 30 days. Waszen will face an arrest warrant with cash-only bail set at $25,000 if each successive task isn’t completed — or at least nearing completion — by Mendez’s deadlines.

“It’s been a frustrating experience dealing with Mr. Waszen and his unfulfilled statements,” Mendez said during the hearing.

I recall our prosecutor curio having to be constantly reminded to collect the fines against Waszen here.
