New Jersey may face a $44 billion bill to update water and sewer systems
“Every time there’s little more than a passing rain, some system somewhere is failing ... and it’s occurring more and more,” said Richard Michelfelder, a Rutgers finance professor and consultant for water, gas and electric utilities. systems.
Even with the pushback most utilities receive from rate increases, Michelfelder said they still face stringent water quality standards through the federal Clean Water Act.
“The average person doesn’t know how much it costs to take a shower,” he said. “But they will soon.
For
the record: At a penny per gallon, times two gallons per minute for a
10-minute shower, the consumer currently pays about 20 cents. If rates
increase as much as Michelfelder believes they’ll need to to cover
infrastructure costs, the same shower may soon cost $2.
That’s $60 per month to shower once a day, 50 percent more than the average total bill for New Jersey customers.

That's $240 just for showers for a family of four! Not counting laundry, dishes, cooking, the garden, etc.
If I had water and sewage, after I read this article,I would start looking for a rural community with wells and septics like Mullica.
I would be willing to pay more for a house just to escape the water fees.
Just one more reason to keep sewers out of Mullica.
