DUI Checkpoint

Hammonton Police Department
Enforcement officials from the Hammonton Police Department in conjunction with the Atlantic County Prosecutors Office will be conducting a roadside DUI Checkpoint on July 11, 2014 starting at 10pm and ending at 3am on July 12, 2014.
The location of the Checkpoint will be at Crescent Tire and Auto (325 S. White Horse Pike). As always please drive safe and if you drink, be responsible and have a designated driver.

There have been questions about why these Checkpoints are made public if the police want to catch impaired  drivers.  The law states that:
For a DUI checkpoint to be valid, law enforcement must advertise that they will be setting up the checkpoint prior to doing so.  The general idea is that if a member of the public knows about the checkpoint, they have the option of avoiding it.  If they choose not to avoid it, then they have consented to the minimal intrusion created by the DUI Checkpoint.
