Voice Of The People - Terry Kruger

Mullica teacher reinstated
thanks to union support
Regarding the June 24 story, "Mullica teacher gets to keep her job":
It was great to see a picture of Kelly Mascio on the front page with the wonderful news that she has been reinstated. The arbitrator in her case clearly saw through the smoke and mirrors, lies and dissemination of incorrect information. He also made her whole again by giving her full back pay, medical insurance and uninterrupted seniority.
Thank goodness for the arbitrator's wise and fair decision. And thank goodness for the strong support of the Mullica Township Education Association and the incomparable support of the New Jersey Education Association.
Without this backing, Mascio would have lost her job, and the Mullica Township School District would not have felt any remorse for destroying an innocent teacher's life through lies and deception. Long live unions. Power to the people.

Well said! This is why people have tenure. Then people who do a good job are assured they can't be fired for making more than an administrator thinks they are worth, or due to nepotism, or due to personal likes and dislikes.

She wasn't completely off the hook! They gave her a 10 day suspension. Which she has served already. So she wasn't as innocent as Ms. Kurger would make it seem.

TO 1:45 PM
From the very start of this case, nobody ever said the situation in September shouldn't have been addressed.
Thousands of comments from across the world rebuked the BoE and Superintendent for their HARSH punishment even when the sensational false report came out.

What would they think now if they knew:
1) The children were not naked as the report stated.

2) They were not "having sex"

3) DYFS investigated and found no guilt of the teacher and no harm to the children

4)The Superintendent waited 4 plus months to put the tenure charges in. One day after she knew her contract would be renewed because she did not get a letter from the school board stating otherwise.

5) The Superintendent presented false verbal statements that Mascio might have been on her cell phone.

6) The Superintendent presented false verbal statement that Mascio might have been on her computer

7) The Superintendent presented false claims that children were at the bathroom door waiting to use the rest room.

8) The Administration removed a aide that should have been in the classroom by law.

9) The Administration did not warn Mascio that the 2 children involved had previous similar behavior in pre K and yet they kept them in the same class for K.

10) This was Mascio's first K class after working with older children for years.

11)93% of the staff of the Mullica School voted "No Confidence" in the Superintendent

12) There have been numerous reports of harassment of other teachers

Now the latest flubs by the Superintendent of releasing staff personal information and releasing parent e mail addresses, put the cherry on the cake.
How many more disasters or embarrassments does this town have to go through before the Board of Education realizes that they can not back Marro and Mazzoni anymore?
How much more money will these people cost the taxpayers of Mullica?

May I add, get rid of the Board lawyer who gave the bad advice, too.

Is anybody selling signs "Remove Marro and Mazzoni"yet? I want one.

4:37 pm,why stop there?
Get to the root of the problem and replace all of the BOE except the one who has some common sense.

It is unclear what advice the Board lawyer even gave. Perhaps we will never know. However, it certainly casts a dark cloud over his head and does tend to make him look bad. But he doesnt care, he only cares about getting paid and making money for his firm. As far as a 10 day suspension for Kelly, I think this was too severe. 10 days pay for 5 minutes? Then how many days is Marro and Mazzoni going to be suspended for? And how come there isnt a Board meeting until August now? Whats up with that? Board members afraid to face the public? Dont worry, we will be in force whenever they have the guts to show their faces!

I think the majority of the public was supporting Mrs. Kelly. She was wronged and when the public gets the facts the public supports the teachers.

Every case is different but this situation was handled very poorly and ineptly. This case will cost the Mullica taxpayers plenty and that money could have been used in the classroom, adding programs or heaven forbid lowering the taxes of our local neighbors.

Good leadership is always in demand and poor leadership always gets costly in the end. Move on and move forward focusing back on educating the local Mullica children.

Not Kelly related, but another money wasting move by the BOARD - If the expired contract of the MTEA had been settled by June 30th, the retro pay due the staff that works ACE (approx. $16,000) would have come out of the ACE grant. Since the board has refused to honor the language of the agreed upon memorandum of agreement and approve the salary guides, the board (AKA TAXPAYERS) will have to bear that cost. When told about this prior to 6/30 the board's response was that they would just have to get the BA to find it somewhere. Wish I could "just find" that amount of money in my budget!

Has anyone seen Marro's contract . That the BOE ok mileage to and from her house ever day . I don't know of any job that you get paid to travel to work and home. I think that she is overpaid as it is. Let alone , getting traveling expense .

A special investigator needs to be sent by the County Superintendent to investigate what's going on inMullica School District.
What
a waste our Superintendents not worth $140,000. She wasted $40,000 in Donio's lawyer fees, $51,000 to hire a teacher to cover Kelly's class and what it cost to hire firm to prevent identity theft for Chief of Police wife and 100# other Substitues. What other things are as yet undiscovered?
It would be cheaper to fire the Superintendent! Why does this BOae defend her judgement and performance? She has destroyed our trust Nd the trust of her staff by the 93% No Confidence vote
If Kelly sues, then her back pay and all the rat will look like peanuts!

10:01 AM. Wouldn't that be considered confidential information, if the contract isn't settled?

To 10:54am

10:01's post doesn't give any specifics on the contract so where is the confidential info?

Um Brenda was fixing a problem with the identity theft she wasn't the cause of it, BTW there was no identity theft it was an internal email, how about go after the person who forwarded an internal email to someone outside of the school. Maybe they are creating problems with in the school
