Mercato Market Closed - Until Further Notice

Dirk DaCosta is the owner of Mercato Market in Mays Landing and said the market needs nearly 100 more vendors in order to reopen.

"When we opened, we only managed to get around the 200 mark in terms of vendors. That's not high enough. It's too low for us to break even," said DaCosta.

With not enough vendors to support the costs of operation, DaCosta had to pay money out of pocket to keep the market running.

"The overhead was actually crippling for us, but we still did it because we had to hope that we could get the number of vendors to the point where we could break even. Unfortunately, we didn't reach that point and we personally couldn't continue to fund it," said DaCosta.
