Air Quality Alert


The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued a code orange air quality alert for Tuesday, June 17 for Atlantic and Cape May counties./NWS The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued a code orange air quality alert for Tuesday, June 17 for Atlantic and Cape May counties.
A code orange air quality alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups, according to the National Weather Service.
Sensitive groups are those that include children along with people suffering from asthma, heart disease and the elderly.
The effects of air pollution can be minimized by avoiding strenuous activity or by not exercising outdoors, the Weather Service said.
Temperatures are expected to reach the upper-80s to lower-90s with rising humidity levels on Tuesday.
Evening higher temperatures will arrive on Wednesday, along with the possibility of strong to severe thunderstorms.
