211 is a user friendly number that connects some 16 million people a year with critical resources and essential services, like utility assistance, emergency help, and even where to find the closest food bank or free tax filing support.
A partnership between each state and the united way, 211, is all about easy access for those who need help.
We've expanded the business beyond a simple informational call center to also be connected to various drug and alcohol tip lines, homeless hotlines, the LIHEAP, the low income heat assistance, 211 is taking thousands of calls about that in these very cold weeks of winter.
The database of over 14,000 programs and services was launched eight years ago.
