South Jersey Drones
The Federal Aviation Administration has announced that the joint application of New Jersey and Virginia has been selected as one of six national test sites for integrating commercial unmanned aircraft systems ( UAS ) into the national airspace.
The William J. Hughes FAA Technical Center in Egg Harbor Township will be the lead facilitator of data collected from each test site. The five other test sites selected are in Alaska-Hawaii-Oregon; Nevada; North Dakota; Texas; and New York.
US Congressman Frank A. LoBiondo (NJ-02) Chairman of the House Aviation Subcommittee, working closely with N.J. Governor, Chris Christie, led the N.J.'s congressional efforts to secure the designation. There is no federal funding from the FAA for any test site.
While each test site will have specific regulations to protect the privacy of surrounding residents and businesses, Congress continues to evaluate legislative options to address civil liberty concerns.
