New Year's Eve 2013

Have a great, safe celebration tonight!

Please remember that drinking and driving do not mix.  Besides being a danger of death to yourself and others, the potential effects are also loss of your vehicle, loss of education, loss of job, financial impacts from court punishments and rehabilitation, plus the time it takes to rehab physically and emotionally from an accident.

Get a designated driver if you're going to be out celebrating or take a cab home, make arrangements to sleep where you are.

Report impaired drivers you see on the road to local law enforcement  or dial #77 to report a drunk or aggressive driver.  You could save someone's life.

The Mullica Township PTA has given tips for your teens and some party suggestions at their link.
Happy New Year everyone!!! Please make safety a top priority tonight as you ring in the new year. Here are some safety tips that might help:
- Stay off the roads if possible. Never drive drunk, but there are also other hazards with late-night driving that can cause concern: Tiredness, wild animals, other motorists, or pedestrians. There are several tow services in the area (some offering a free tow for those wishing to get home safe tonight), cab services, and designated drivers as options tonight.
- Host a party at home with no alcohol. Let your teen or older child decorate, choose music, and invite friends. The best way to keep teens safe is to know where they are and what they are doing. Network with other parents if your teen is going to a friends house. Make sure no alcohol will be served. Always model the behavior you expect from your teens and children.
- Research community events. Bowling alleys, skating rinks, youth centers, and museums often hold new year celebrations that are appropriate for older children and teens. Offer to take your child and suggest inviting friends. These celebrations are often 'closed door' so the children can not go out and come back in.
- Communicate your expectations! Provide leadership and boundaries and communicate your expectations before your child goes out. Even if you have discussed healthy choices before, it is important to repeat the message. Ask how they plan to stay safe and avoid choices they may regret. Remind them that you believe in their character and their ability to act responsibly.

Have so much fun, and enjoy your New Year celebration!!

Be aware of possible weather changes if you are traveling out of the area.
Snow showers are possible this afternoon into early evening, according to US National Weather Service New York NY. A few snow squalls could develop, "producing brief white out conditions in heavy snow and strong winds," so be alert for the possibility of rapidly changing conditions. US National Weather Service Philadelphia/Mount Holly advises that potential activity is generally confined to Central Jersey northward.
