Elwood Rabid Raccoon

For the second time this week, a raccoon found in Atlantic County has tested positive for rabies, bring the total number to 7 for the year.
The Division of Public Health collected a raccoon from a home on the 800 Block of Elwood Road in Mullica Township last week.

Five cats belonging to the property owner had possible exposure to the raccoon and will be observed over the next six months for signs of rabies since they weren't current with their vaccinations.

Health Officials are reminding residents to be sure their pets are up to date with their rabies vaccinations and avoid contact with wild and stray animals.
