Email to The Gadfly - Bulk Waste Permits


           Subject : Improvements to bulk permitting process rejected along party lines

To all of you that had asked me as your representative and head of administration to do something about the time wasting requirement to come to town hall each and every year for a new bulk waste permit even though the one you still have has available "punches" on it.  I am sorry.

In my attempt to resolve your concerns, I proposed to the committee that the permit holder be allowed to run out the allotted six uses while maintaining the yearly limit before applying for a new permit.  I explained that last year we issued just under 1,100 permits and that those 1,100 permits will expire at the end of the year thereby requiring 1,100 applicants to reapply every year.  This process also requires one of our employees to process 1,100 permits when her time could be better applied doing something more constructive.  I also reminded the committee that we have been using the same system as being proposed for decades when issuing the orange trash stickers with total success.

The twisted logic being expressed while denying my proposed change was "if it ain't broken, don't fix it" ....Wow !  1,100 unnecessary and inconsiderate trips to town hall per year isn't a broken system?  Another reason given was that people come in to pay their taxes and can get their permit at that time....Wow again !  Less than half of our taxpayers pay in person; the others will have to make a special trip each year to town hall for their permit.  This way of thinking shows a lack of consideration for our taxpayers' time.

Again, I apologize to all those that I led to believe that this proposal would easily pass because it made so much more common sense than the present method, especially, because it saves time and expense.  Who Knew?

This goes to show how the Repubs. will not agree to anything no matter how small or how much money it would save if a Democrat suggests it.
Thank you for working for the people even though you're faced with such opposition.

Why would you have objections to something that would save time,money and make things more convenient for the taxpayers?

I can see the savings in this suggestion. I only used one punch the last two years. Two cards with 5 punches left were thrown out. At this usage rate, I could keep my 2013 card for 6 years.
I bet a lot of people don't use all 6 punches.
The town has to pay for printing up all the cards and the employees have to take time to register each one every year. It would save money if this was done maybe every 4-6 years depending on individual usage.

Thank you, Mr. Gabris, for trying to do something in the interest of the taxpayers of Mullica Township. I fail to see the logic or the motive of the opposition for this but clearly it it not in line with the best interest of the community. It's good to know that we have at least one person trying to protect our rights and liberties. Thanks so much for all that you do.

To Anonymous timed @ 3:33 with your accolades to the committee members that are blocking this, what do you mean "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"? It IS broken so what do you have against fixing it? This was a good idea. What needs to be fixed are the committee members that stand in the way of progress. If the committe members are broke, then let's fix it.
