Hamilton's former Republican Party Chairman and former Township Mayor, John Bencivengo, was sentenced today to three years and two months in federal prison for soliciting $12,400 in bribes from a school district insurance broker. He was ordered to pay a $3,000 fine and restitution of the bribe money.
US District Judge Anne Thompson said that deterring Bencivengo from committing another crime was not an issue but that the "question comes down to how much of a poster child for corrupt public officials he is to be".
