Committee to appoint replacement for Kennedy on Friday

From the Press of Atlantic City, 9/19/2011-Lee Procida, Staff Writer

The Township Committee will hold a special meeting 2 p.m. Friday to appoint a replacement for recently deceased Committeeman William Kennedy.

Kennedy was set to run for re-election in November but died Aug. 26 due to complications from heart surgery. He was elected as a Democrat, but switched to the Republican Party afterward, and was finishing his second term on committee.

Since Kennedy won election as a Democrat, the local Democratic committee submitted three possible replacements from which the Township Committee could choose a replacement for the remainder of this year: former mayor Michael St. Amour, Elizabeth Schroeder Buonsante and Bernard Graebener.

It should be noted, the Township committee discussed and voted on this at the 9/13/2011 Committee meeting and hit a stalemate with Republicans Jim Brown and Lawrence Riffle voting for Beth Schroeder-Buonsante and Democrats Anthony Gabris and Susan Polk voting for Bernard Graebener. If the committee does not come to a consensus at the special meeting on Friday, the decision would then be turned over to the Mullica Township Democratic County Committee on Saturday and they would then chose the replacement.

Is it true that Jim Brown wanted three different names after the stalemate vote?
Please, somebody tell me if this is just a bad joke or if Brown is really so dense. The latter is scary.

Does Jim Brown really want to have the Democratic Committee pick the replacement?
I thought that Polk and Gabris were being kind to him by voting for Graebener.
The stubborn old fool deserves just what he may get. His worst nightmare.

Re 10:56am
Yes,it's true. It looks like Brown thought he could get three new names until he went through half the Twp. which might have taken until Dec.31th when the seat was up.
Re 11:29am
I agree. Maybe the county committee won't be as "kind". I don't know why a special meeting had to be called. Why the delay? Is Brown trying to buy off Gabris or Polk during this week?

RE: "Committee to appoint replacement for Kennedy on Friday"
Maybe and maybe not. If the last meeting is any indication, probably not.

If they don't appoint a replacement on Friday, then one will be selected FOR them on Saturday.
