Who was responsible for hiring our new principal? Was this the Board?

They hired one at a special board meeting Tuesday night. Matt Mazzoni from Buena School District.

Its a shame that school districts dont hire/promote from within. It must be terribly demoralizing for educators within the school district watch as the board continously hires people from outside the district to fill leadership positions.

It is a shame that quality of the candidate and thus the school means nothing to you 7:47 a.m.

One would think the BOE, as well as the superintendent is responsible for the interviews and hiring of all employees.

The school district did the right thing by hiring outside of the district. First of all, there really isn't anyone within that would be able to handle the middle school side. A male principal is what Mullica twp needs.

The school employees would rather people from the outside!!!!!!

re: 2:06 p.m. comment
Why does the middle school NEED a male principal? What an arrogant and sexist comment to make. Maybe Kevin Dugan should have moved back to the middle school and then they could have hired a woman for the primary school since the middle school needs a man for the job.

Hopefully his first correspondance to staff won't contain typos, and a schedule for the first "Staff Only Day" to be held on
September 1, 2009 at Meckanzie school. This was what came from the new Superintendent.

There were multiple qualified candidates from within the Mullica School to fill the job of Prinipal in the Middle School. Who best to know the cliques, situations, school, programs, staff and kids then someone within the district. First the Board tries to hire an outsider to lead our school (superintendent), now they hire a principal from outside to help lead our middle school.

11:50 a.m. is scared of new ideas? kKnows for a fact that Mullica had equally qualified candidates? Small town mentality can go too far and prevent real improvement in schools.

So many people think that hiring within is always the best way. Well, sometimes it's not, and in this case it wasn't. The middle school is in desperate need of a stern, but FAIR and CONSISTENT principal. Also in this case it was imperative that one also had experience. 2:44...well said. For all of those people who supported the previous principal for superintendent of schools, well, don't miss the response from 11:17.

Why are so many of you threatened by our new super? Is it because she is a woman? Is it because she has lots of energy and great ideas? Does her success threaten you in some way? You ignorant Mullicans need to look inward and ask yourselves some hard questions. And for those that think for one second that people within the school dont know what the problems are and how to fix them underestimate those that were overlooked for the job. By the way, the new middle school principal is from Buena - a very small school district.

As an employee of Mullica Township Schools, I'm very saddened to see the responses from 11:17 and 8:13. I can't imagine that 11:17 or 8:13 have never made any simple, small errors before. I believe that our new Superintendent is doing a fine, fine job and deserves kudos for the job she is doing. As for the folks issuing sexist sentiments, I am very sad that your moral fiber allows those kinds of comments and I am going to keep you in my thoughts.
