Elections have consequences - but the Mullica Township school budget election didn't. Sixty-three percent of township residents said no, but most of our township committeemen and women did not seem to get the message, when they voted May 4 against the people to raise our school taxes.
Sixty three percent is an extremely large victory. The only committeeman who got the message was Bernard Graebener. Mayor Michael St. Amour gave a partisan speech about how Gov. Chris Christie has done nothing but turn neighbor against neighbor. I guess after having a "Vote Yes" sign on his lawn, we knew were his loyalty stood.
St. Amour doesn't understand that our state is in financial ruin and Christie's job wasn't going to be easy. The shared sacrifice that must be endured is for all citizens of this state - not just the ones who do not have the most powerful union in the state to back them up.

Mullica Officials Ignored Voters

Ah, the smell of election season is in the air.
The Mullica school is the heart of our Twp.. Mr. Freeland conveniently doesn't mention that a compromise was met and the school budget was reduced by 1.075 cents.
Since Mr. Freeland reads the Press,he most certainly saw the stories of what the other towns in this County are going through.
I feel that the Committee did the fairest thing possible under the conditions they were faced with.
I agree with 12:34 pm and feel that the opposing party is trying to twist the facts and take advantage of the horrible financial conditions of this State that are being passed down to the Municipal governments.
This reader wonders how come Mr. Freeland did not write such a commentary when the Mullica Township Committee under the "leadership" of Kathy Chasey, Janet Forman and Bill Kennedy did nothing to decrease the school budget by not even reaching a compromise as did Mayor St. Amour and our current committee. Under Chasey and Forman, they gave out nice raises to municipal workers AND defied the taxpayers by not even reducing the budgets voted down by the taxpayers in years past. Do you remember that Mr. Freeland? Were you as outraged back then? Actually, you should have been even more outraged back then since Chasey and Forman did NOTHING to reduce those voter-rejected school budgets. They defied the voters and approved them as is....no reduction, no compromises. Sorry, Mr. Up-Chuck Freeland, you seem to be lacking credibility here or perhaps its simply the result of a faulty memory.
Did Mr. Freeland forget the hundreds of voters who voted FOR the budget? The budget vote is not an all-or-nothing vote like a regular election, but Mr. Freeland seems uninformed anyway.
