TRENTON - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has told municipal mayors to brace for aid cuts in the year ahead.
Christie did not tell mayors Wednesday how much state support they can expect to lose for the fiscal year that starts July 1. But the governor reminded them that the state is in dire financial shape.
Christie told a group of mayors attending annual Legislative Day events municipal aid is not going to stay level.
Christie told the local officials he would sign legislation that gets to his desk reining in pension and health benefits costs. The cost-cutting measures may not come in time for the next budget.
Christie will introduce his budget for the next fiscal year on March 16.
