Just Give Us $200,000 Each

From The Press of Atlantic City, Voice of the People, Opinion, 12/15/2009

President Barack Obama wants to spend up to $150 billion on helping the wobbly economy by creating new jobs for roads and construction. I say forget Obama's plan and give $200,000 to every American citizen who is 18 and over, has worked and paid Social Security, income and property taxes and who has less than $200,000 in assets.

These requirements will probably cut the number of recipients down to about 100 million people out of the population of 304 million. But the economy will certainly not be wobbly anymore.

Some will pay off their mortgages. This will give banks more money to lend and help them pay back the all the money we loaned to keep them from going bankrupt.

Some will pay off credit cards, personal loans, car loans, etc., which is also good for banks and credit card companies.

Some will hoard it in their bank accounts, which will still do good because banks will have more to lend and people will earn interest.

Some will say screw their bills and buy a car, boat, all-terrain vehicle or summer home, or go on vacation or fix their houses - all of which will stimulate the economy and put blue-collar people back to work.

The circle of money changing hands is a perfect way to make things right again.

The idea is for the money to stimulate the economy, not to pay off bills with it or put the money in a savings account.
The banks already have received enough help from the government.

All-terrain vehicles are a bane to our environment.

Just what my 18-year-old kid needs.

Seems a bit arbitrary to me.

Just give me the $200,000 and I promise I will stimulate the economy.

what about the people that worked thier a__ off and paid thier bills... what do they get... to pay for everyone who didn't.... they get penilized for working 16 hours a day and paying thier taxes.. I understand we have to help the people who cant afford thier homes but they signed the papers... they said they could make the payments.. now they can't and I have to pay for it. NOT FAIR! Help the poor not the _________.

Keri - great idea. Lets give everyone the same amount of money....hmmm. No wait, the same amount of everything!!! I think they tried that in the Soviet Union....how did that work out? Not only would such an action devalue our dollar even further, but inflation would go through the roof. Who would want to work for $8.00 an hour when they have $200,000 in the bank? Who would work all of the menial low-paying jobs to help enrich our corporate slave masters? You got it all wrong. That is not how the game is played. To master the game, you need to know the rules. Study the rules and act accordingly. Then you wont have to hope for a $200,000.00 check from your Uncle Sammy. Uncle Sammy already gave us a windfall for those fortunate enough to own a clunker....the one Uncle Sammy irresponsibly gave you cash for.....and then ensured was crushed and melted down.....making less affordable cars on the market. Yes, learn the rules, play by them and if you are good at the game, I suspect that you would rethink your position.
