Lauer School

Hello, I was just wondering if you could tell me who bought the little red school house on Darmstadt Ave, and what the use was going to be if you know.

Last I heard, no one bought it.

There were 2 inquiries, one walk- through of the old school. It was announced at the last school board meeting that one bid was received. Bid was from Tom Messina, a general contractor. $53,000 bid involves a 10% bond/Lou Messina.

Mr. Goldberg deferred the board to discuss it in executive session, and not at public session.

Public comment was not permitted at the end of school board meeting, only before the meeting. Taxpayers with questions on any issues presented at school board meetings are forced to wait until the next month, and pose questions before meetings, and usually well after board has taken action.

re 11:14am
I do not attend school board meetings so I was appalled by your description of the way the board handles the public. The biggest part of our taxes goes to the school and parents and concerned citizens should have all their questions answered immediately and respectfully. To wait a month to ask a question on matters that have already been decided is ridiculous.

This board is not serving the public the way it should be.

Most school boards allow public comment on agenda items at the beginning of the meeting and allow comments and questions on all matters at the end. This is the first that I have heard that our board does not allow the second public comment session. Is this something new?

Where is the school boards agenda posted at? How does one know what is on the agenda before they come to a meeting? The agenda is not posted online prior to meetings.

Re 3:55 pm
If you can't find the agenda, then I guess you won't be able to have any questions ready for them.
It looks like the school board would rather you stay home,be quiet and leave them alone.

There are meeting minutes on the school district website, but none for September. I noticed in the minutes that the meetings were opened to the public at the beginning and at the end of the meetings.

Re: 9:58 a.m.

I have been at the meetings. At the August meeting, Mrs. Simpkins actually spoke out of turn when they were adjourning the meeting. She asked if public comment was allowed while the board was adjourning the meeting. Public comment was also not listed on the end of the agenda which was handed out.

The July meeting notation was not actually a public comment at the end. Mr. Goldberg (supt'd) calls on school employees in the audience to speak and comment during the meetings when he wishes. The notation which appears as a public comment at the end was actually Mr. Goldberg speaking to an employee.

The January, April and June meeting minutes reflect that no public comment was allowed at the end of the meeting.

The February meeting minutes are not sequenced accurately. Mrs. James made her comment at the beginning of the meeting, followed by comments by Mr. St. Amour, a staff teacher (not noted), and Janet Forman (not noted). The minutes make it appear that Mrs. James' comment was made at the end. Mr. St. Amour's comment listed at the beginning of the meeting was obviously a response to Mrs. James comments made at the BEGINNING of the meeting.

When second public comment has been occasionally permitted, it is after the board has discussed and voted upon all issues.

RE: 9:58. The meeting minutes for September will be voted on at the October meeting and then released. All minutes need to be voted on before release.

Yes, and agendas should be available to the public before the date of the meeting, Especially if the public is not going to be allowed to comment and ask questions at the end of the meeting.
