WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP - Two children reported missing Friday night after rafting by themselves on the Wading River in Wharton State Forest were found early Saturday morning, State Police said.
Trooper Richard Ashkar said the children, ages 10 and 11, went missing around 8:45 p.m. and a search party of State Police and park rangers went out to find them. They were spotted on the banks of the river at 4:15 a.m.
The children were not hurt, Ashkar said. He was unable to say where they were from or how they ended up rafting on the river without adult supervision.
The rain and wind Friday night put the boys in a dangerous situation, he added. Ashkar's advice: "Parents shouldn't let their children go out on their own like that, especially with inclement weather."
