A New Jersey appeals court says state regulators were justified in levying $700,000 in penalties against a South Jersey waste disposal firm.
In a decision issued Monday, a three-judge appellate panel ruled that the Department of Environmental Protection was warranted in its action against Magic Disposal Inc.(Steve Waszen) of Egg Harbor Township based on its review of the "extensive" case record.
The case centered on Magic Disposal's (Steve Waszen) operation of a trash transfer station in Egg Harbor Township. The state claimed the company violated its permit by bringing in more waste than allowed and processing waste outside the facility.
The company noted the site has been closed since 2005 and denied its operation ever created any environmental or health hazard.

Mullica missed getting this mess by just a few weeks. If it were not for the actions of the people of Mullica and the Democrats at the State and Federal levels, especially then-acting Governor Cody, who told NJ Transit not to do the hook-up, we would still have an active dump here today in Mullica.
The appeals court upheld the $700,000 fine by the DEP but the article says nothing about Waszen being banned from the solid waste industry. The last article said that the state Administrative Law Court ruled that Magic Disposal should be stripped of its certificate to run a solid-waste company and be barred from the solid-waste and recycling industry altogether.
Waszen's Lawyer,Mr.Olivo,was appealing this decision,too. I can only assume that this matter is being handled as a separate appeal.
We should all remember that it was brought out at a town meeting that Mr. Olivo had a private meeting with then Mayor Mr. Kennedy about the future uses of the Waszen property. When this was discovered, Mr. Olivo was asked by the Dems. to address the whole committee and the public at a township meeting about his ideas and concerns.
Do not let your guards down about Mr. Olivo and Mr. Waszen. The Dems. are being keep out of the loop on many matters in this town and Mr. Olivo has a new Mayor in this town now.
As we all learned in the past,the proposed Rail Transfer Station was kept a secret from the public for almost a year by Chasey,Forman and the Repubs. We all know about Chasey's desire to rezone all of Elwood Village for her buddy Waszen. Who knows what secret plans are being formed now?

Don't forget about Bruce Crowe being all FOR the Garbage Rail Transfer Station in front of the Union guys but he had to be quiet about it in town for political reasons. Chasey and Crowe,perfect together and a perfect disaster for the future of Mullica as we know and love it.
Re 6:21pm I looked up that old article from July 3th and the spokesman for the Attorney General's Office,Lee Moore, said that Waszen and Magic Disposal still owe about $4.2 MILLION in other penalties and fines as of last March.
State Administrative Law Judge Jeff Masin wrote that Waszen failed to exhibit sufficient integrity,reliability,expertise or competency and Waszen did not have good character or honesty in relation to his business operations.
There was even a big law suit by Perrona against Waszen because he felt that Waszen bilked him out of the Pike property.
Why did Cathy Chasey and Forman spend thousands upon thousands of the Mullica's taxpayers money to investigate ways to help Waszen recoup his money on the land that they all expected to be a Garbage Rail Transfer station?
Why did they try to rezone all of Elwood Village when they found out it would be illegal to spot-zone just Waszen's property for development?
Why were they so eager and intent on helping a person of the above mentioned reputation? Do you think for one minute that they did it out of the kindness of their hearts?

Talking about fleas! How about all our money that was billed by the town solicitor for talks with the "GutShooter"Barbera from Altantic City about the Waszen property development. That guy ended up in Federal prison. The state said he turned into an informant and was wearing a wire in a lot of his deals. I'm still hoping the Feds have some tapes of his Mullica conversations and are waiting for the right time to spring into action. Some of the cases from Atlantic City go back to 2001. I think the "Gut Shooter" was also the County Republican Club Treasurer at one point.

It was mentioned awhile back that Cathy Chasey might be looking for a County political job. She would fit right in with her friends and fleas.

I think the County Republicans are trying to clean up their act.
They wouldn't want Cathy Chasey and her old baggage at this time.
Chasey and Crowe - been there, done that. We don't need any more controversey in Mullica. Let's clean up our act,too!!!
I did see the county cleaning up trash on Moss Mill Rd this week.
