Mullica Township splits 2 games in fast pitch softball World Series

From The Press of Atlantic City, published Monday, July 13, 2009 — The Mullica Township Maniacs, a 14-and-under fast-pitch team, split two games Sunday in the National Softball Association’s Eastern Nationals World Series in Roanoke, Va.

The Maniacs rebounded from a 5-1 loss to Extreme Force of Virginia with a 5-0 victory against the East Wake Spirits of North Carolina.

Marlee Seymour pitched a three-hitter with three strikeouts for Mullica Township in the second game. Seymour also had a two-run single.

Taylor Kessler and Chelsey Peterson each went 2-for-3. Brigitte Garvey added a triple.

In the first game, Garvey had two of her team’s five hits. Peterson went 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.

Losing pitcher Kelly Lupton struck out seven.

Mullica Township finishes its pool play at 10:45 a.m. today against Galaxy of Virginia. The double-elimination round follows in the 42-team field.
