The question on the poll is way too general for the subject, do "services" include giving up the excellent education we provide through taxes? Remember, those taxes make up most of what we pay. Or, do we want to give up plowed roads ,police protection, safety, and like services? I think everyone can agree that no one believes ANY tax is just right!
The poll is asking about just Municipal taxes. The school tax is different. What "safety" service do we get? I would like to see the generous raises given to town employees frozen and a reduction or personal contribution to their gold-plated lifetime benefits.
To 2:47 Saftey Services = Fire,Police,Rescue, safe roads ? Any of these seem important? Most likey they are taken for granted. and to 3:14,should they be exempt before during or after everyone else has educated them and their children?
Re 6:18 I agree with 3:14pm. I feel that Senior citizens or disabled people should be exempt from school taxes if they can prove extremely low income. This way maybe they could afford to stay in the homes that they worked for all their lives for. Right now their taxes are frozen but it's still way to high for them.
How about Seniors are absolved from paying any school taxes under a certain income level and they don't get to vote in the school board elections. That seems to be a fair exchange.
Property taxes includes about 50% for the school and the rest for the municipality including the county of Atlantic. The problem is, some of those who have been in power, and are fighting to stay in power, have bought their way in by giving large salary increases to township workers and the police department. They have also refused to tell the school that the tax increases for the school are unacceptable. They haven't because they want the teacher and support staff vote. The question isn't what can we do without but rather, why are we paying so much for what we do get. I have to question whether we need all the police that we have at 16 or so people?

I feel that people 65 years old or anyone disabled below a certain set income should be exempt from paying school taxes completely.
Both our municipal and school property taxes are way too high.

I would go for that.
