Voter Registration & Reproduction
Is it just me or does it seem that we really need to create some sort of standards before folks can register to vote and/or reproduce. Perusing some of the right-wing propaganda this past election season got me thinking. Americans should not have a right to vote or reproduce simply because they are American. For example, if you can't name one country that makes up NAFTA, you should not be allowed to vote, much less reproduce. That doesn't mean that the right-wing could not put up Sarah Palin as their presidential hopeful in 2012. Hell, that just makes for great entertainment while ensuring a Democratic victory. Who would have believed that she thought Africa was a country? Yet, these same right-wing nut jobs just love her, insist she is qualified to be the Vice President, claim that she now heads the GOP and would provide a down-to-earth quality that is so lacking from our national leaders. In the words of the immortal Larry Angel, "Huh?". I'm rambling and for that I apologize. My point is that too many of the electorate are simply intellectually inferior, with a disproportionate number defining themselves as Republican. I support a national standardized test that must be taken when every person achieves the age of 18 years to determine whether or not that person is eligible to reproduce and register to vote. For those that pass, a lifetime of voting privileges and unprotected intercourse await. For those that fail, there are always jobs like selling real estate and doing auto body work. The sterilization procedure that they would all have to undergo would not impact their aptitude for these jobs.

That's a dangerous can of worms we'd be opening up. While I agree that having a voter aptitude test might be a good idea (at least in theory), the thought of sterilizing people based on intellectual capabilities is flat out wrong. The Nazis used sterilization on their citizens with the justification that some people just shouldn't be allowed to pass on their genes.
Besides, who would get to decide what criteria to use to judge people fit to vote OR reproduce? Knowledge of U.S. history? World events? Geography? Party affiliation?
I agree that a number of conservatives and Republicans have behaved irrationally and sometimes downright stupidly during this election, but this is America, and they have the unalienable rights to vote blindly and proliferate with abandon as they please. I don't like the fact that people vote based on hate, fear or ignorance any more than you do, but once you start tampering with rights, it can only end badly.
I also realize that you were most likely half-joking in parts of this post, but I wanted to add my two cents on the matter.
Thank you!!! I needed a good laugh and the last part really did it. There is a lot of truth in what you say but the politicians would never go for it. They love people who are ignorant and the more ignorant people that are around means more votes for them. All kidding aside, this is a free country with equal rights for all and you just couldn't stop someone from voting because they were uninformed. The suggestion of regulating sex and the current events of the world made me think of Orwell's novel "1984". Scary!
Nice fun post, that hits the core, produces insight and thinking, and that was terribly typified in the 2000 and 2004 elections.
While your post falls a bit short of Swift's, "A Modest Proposal," it is a worthy satire. Thank you for your effort.

Criminally insane may lose votes.
(Go see article)
State Sen. Shirley Turner,D-Mercer,
said she is drafting a bill that would bar the criminally insane from voting.
"These are the people who have been determined not to know right from wrong---which is why they're in a psychiatric facility," she said.
Could someone please tell me how these people voted?
Is this the latest campaign strategy, to go to the nearest
facility and hand out ballots.
Maybe a voting machine was rolled in just for the criminally insane.
A lot of dead people voted in the last two elections. It would be interesting to know who the criminally insane person voted for.

"These are the people who have been determined not to know right from wrong---which is why they're in a psychiatric facility" This statement by a politician is outrageous!!!! Do you know what this would mean? Chasey and Forman would not be allowed to vote!!! I am sure they are against this measure.
Too late.......I believe the auto insurance fraud queen and her grease monkey husband already reproduced.......
Dear Dennis, actually, I was more than half-joking. I wouldn't want to be accused of being a Nazi, invited to join the Mullica Republican Club, asked to appear on Hannity & Colmes or offered a full-time job at Fox News. But since you asked, perhaps Katie Couric could conduct interviews, dumbing down her Palin questionaire even futher - Is that possible? Or how about a field sobriety test? We could have those in law enforcement that are capable of passing the test themselves, administer to others. If they fail, the officer writes them a ticket, the ticket gets recorded into the big brother computer system where the offender automatically has their voting capabilities revoked while at the same time they are scheduled for sterilization????? There - another problem solved. I will be posting on my solution to world hunger later next week.
