Mullica Rescue Squad, Does it really need to be rescued?

Larry was never a “friend” of Chief Franklin. Larry was just trying to do what he thought was right for Mullica. He opposed what he thought was the waste, by the Township, on the Rescue Squad and the four fire companies. Larry felt that we should consolidate the four fire companies to one or two and let a paid or regionalized squad handle Mullica Ambulance calls.

Ever since Chief Franklin took control of the Mullica Rescue Squad, it has gone downhill. What is interesting is that most calls are handled by Hammonton. If Chief Franklin wants more money he should stop paying Hammonton to cover Mullica. Egg Harbor is not allowed to respond to Mullica by order of Chief Franklin. Dispatch has a written order forbidding them from calling Egg Harbor Rescue. What would really be interesting would be if someone would show the public the results and the recommendations of the sub-committee that explored the Ambulance issue (NOTE: Chief Franklin refused to participate in this study). Currently, a nationwide lack of EMT volunteers (due to intense EMT school requirements) is showing that regionalization would be a better use of what is available. If Mullica, Green Bank, Lower Bank and Egg Harbor City were to merge with Hammonton, Galloway Township or Hamilton Township, the response time would improve and the cost to the township would probably be less. Unfortunately this would never happen because Chief Franklin would lose control.

As far as being the “Township Fire Chief” Chief Franklin has done a terrific job of destroying the working relationship of the four fire companies. Please note Chief Franklin was reappointed by Kennedy. He was originally appointed by Chasey and Forman.

I am choosing to remain anonymous as I personally am afraid of the retribution from the likes of Chief Franklin and his Council friends, Kennedy, Forman and Chasey. They can be VERY nasty when ticked off.

Does Chief Franklin have a paid position or is he a volunteer worker? If Kennedy has this bad feud going on with him, why did he reappoint Franklin?

Dispatch has a written order from Chief Franklin that Egg Harbor City Rescue is not allowed to respond??? If that order wasn't there, would they be able to? I live much closer to Egg Harbor City than Hammonton and those precious minutes could mean life or death to me or my loved ones. I was under the false impression that Egg Harbor City would be the first responder in the 08215 area.

Chief Franklin is supposedly a "volunteer". As to why Kennedy reappointed him, ask him. Call the business number of dispatch 965-1200 or 965-1000 and ask them about the Egg Harbor Rescue not allowed in Mullica. DO NOT CALL 911for this information. And fyi, Galloway covers for Egg Harbor Rescue when they need it.

We have four fire companies and just half an ambulance squad covering Mullica. This doesn't seem to be a good allocation of resources.

So far I have read that the Mullica Rescue Squad uses a sub-standard garage, has out-dated epuipment, most calls are handled by Hammonton and Chief Franklin has let the squad go downhill and yet refuses to let Egg Harbor City help out with calls.
Everyone can thank Janet Forman, Kathy Chasey and Bill Kennedy because they are the ones that refused to listen to the 3 person committee appointed to evaluate ambulance service in 2007.
The committee recommended, for both a timely response time and less of a financial burden to Mullica, to contract with the Hammonton Rescue Squad to provide 24/7 ambulance service to Mullica.
Mullica's citizens are the losers and lives are being placed in danger because of Gary Franklin's linkage to the local Republican party.
