Bill Kennedy has been the "head" of public safety for his three years on township committee, but he is obviously NOT concerned about everyone's safety. He has said that he wants to spend taxpayer money on a new park in front of town hall, BUT HAS REFUSED TO PROVIDE ANY MONETARY ASSISTANCE TO THE MULLICA TOWNSHIP EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES (THE RESCUE SQUAD). This is due to Kennedy's long-standing feud with Gary Franklin, head of the squad. The squad is forced to use a sub-standard garage, with out-dated equipment. The money that Kennedy would waste on a park would be better spent on the safety needs of Mullica residents---if not for the rescue squad, then to assist the other volunteers in the fire companies.
Yes, Mr. Kennedy cares about public safety, as long as you're his "friend". When you call an ambulance and it takes too long to get to your house, you can blame Kennedy.

Yeah, Kennedy is some kind of head, I'll allow you to fill in the blank.
Good point. I have been at some meetings where the rescue squad has begged for financial assistance. Also, Kennedy is against a gun ordinance that would prohibit people from firing guns (target practice) within a certain distance from a neighbors house. So much for trying to improve safety in the town. But then he is for eliminating campaigning at the dump...all in the name of safety. Just because Mike St. Amour was hit by Glen Forman...on purpose, all of a sudden we have a safety problem at the transfer station. Mullica needs more leaders like St. Amour and Graebner who will look out for our rural way of life and be fiscally responsible.
Gee, I thought all you fire and rescue squad people loved Kennedy. You people that donate your time and effort to help our community are the best citizens of Mullica. You have taken on a hard, dangerous job and should be given top priority and respect in this town.I know nothing about the problem between Kennedy and Franklin but it is obviously causing resentment between the squad and the council. The only thing I can suggest is to get together as a group and discuss this at a Twp. meeting. This riff could be affecting the whole town. I would like to thank you all for coming to our aid at the worse times in our lives.
I think it is outragous that Mr. Kennedy would let a personal feud interfere with his duties and promises to our community. As the Mayor and Head of Public Safety, he should have put our emergency services on the top of his list for improvements. Why didn't you write to the Press before the election to inform the public what was going on? In his position as Mayor he could have made special appeals to the public for more donations or put on special fund raisers or demanded that money be given from the budget to help support you. You are our town's life line and I can not think of a more important service to support. Thank you for helping us all out of the goodness of your hearts.
Three years is long enough time for one committeeman to head one department. Its time for a change to get some new leadership there. Otherwise, things become business as usual. It's just good government to switch tings around from time to time to get some new ideas into the organization.
I found this site from the AC Press and I am learning more about this town everyday. The more I read the less I like. I had no idea what was going on and also that the emergency squad was in such bad shape. Our town council should be working for the citizens of this town, not against us. Take care of the living first, the dead can wait until there's extra money.
Kennedy is mad at Franklin for something so he is going to get back at him by refusing money for the squad? There is something wrong with the man! Is he going to be happy if people die and the blame is put on the squad for poor equipment? That is beyond dumb! Is that man so spiteful that he would risk innocent lives in this way?
On the Town web site the address is:
Mullica Twp.Rescue Squad
Station Nr 164
PO Box 1067
Hammonton, N.J. 08307
Chief Gary Franklin
I know things are rough right now for a lot of people but maybe you could send a couple dollars to the men and women who work so hard for us. It is so easy to forget them while we go about our daily lives but they become the most important people in the world to us when we're in trouble. Thanks

The last two comments made me search the archives for Gary Franklin. Yes, the past is very interesting and,as usual,a big mess for Mullica. Maybe someday the welfare of the citizens of this town will come first to the whole council.
Seems like Hillbilly Boy is sending a shout out to his mother, Janet.
I know we have a couple of fire stations but is this the only rescue squad we have? Does Hammonton or Egg Harbor City help with any calls? Are their facilites and equipment in better shape than ours? Can anyone please answer these questions for me?
Ever since Chief Franklin took control of the Mullica squad, it has gone down hill. What is interesting is that MOST calls are handled by Hammonton. If Chief Franklin wants more money he should stop paying Hammonton to cover Mullica. Egg Harbor is not allowed to respond to Mullica by order of Chief Franklin. Dispatch has a written order forbidding them from calling Egg Harbor Rescue. What would really be interesting would be if some one would show the public the results and the recommendations of the sub-committee that explored the Ambulance issue (NOTE: Chief Franklin REFUSED to participate in this study). Currently, a nation wide lack of EMT volunteers (due to intense EMT school requirements) is showing that regionalization would be a better use of what is available. If Mullica, Green Bank, Lower Bank and Egg Harbor City were to merge with Hammonton, Galloway Township or Hamilton Township, our response time would improve and the cost to the township would probably be less. Unfortunately this would never happen because Chief Franklin would lose control. I am choosing to remain anonymous as I personnaly am afraid of the retribution from the likes of Chief Franklin and his Council friends, Forman and Chasey. They can be VERY nasty when ticked off.
