Service planned for Larry Angel
Larry Angel, a resident of Mullica Township for more than 25 years, died suddenly on May 8.
He was 66.
Known in the community for his outspoken nature concerning local and national policies, he was an active member of various issue-related and political organizations throughout the county.
While living in Mullica, Mr. Angel took on numerous contentious local issues and was often critical of elected and appointed officials of both political parties. This earned him the ire of some and the appreciation of others in the township.
Mr. Angel attended almost every Mullica Township Committee meeting, as well as School Board and Planning Board meetings, where he regularly questioned officials, commented and offered insight. He served on the Mullica Zoning Board from 1989 to 1992 and ran for Township Committee several times in the 1990s.
He hosted an acerbic local informational and comment Internet Web site, gadfly01.blogspot.com, which many visited. Mr. Angel went to Mullica’s town hall daily to gather news and to make inquiries for his site.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and was employed as a lifeguard at Hammonton Health and Fitness at the time of his death.
Mr. Angel could usually be seen with his beloved St. Bernard mix, which he affectionately named Doofus.
Survivors include his brother, Dennis Angel, and his sister-in-law, Pam, of Los Angeles, and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his father, Samuel, his mother, Dorothy (nee Colby), and a brother, Gary, all of Los Angeles.
A gathering to remember Larry Angel will be held beginning at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 13, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, which meets at the Lions Center for the Blind building, Pitney Road and Crestview Avenue, in Absecon. All are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Larry's name to the ACLU-NJ Foundation. There is a box on the right you can put in the amount and a box on the bottom where you can type in "In Memory of Larry Angel"
