Subject: TODAY / MULLICA TOWNSHIP: n The issue: The Township Committee plans to seek a feasibility study of merging its Police Department with Egg Harbor City's - as long as the state pays for it. n Why it matters: Mullica and Egg Harbor City face severe state funding cuts, so they're looking to gain incentives by sharing more services as Gov. Jon S. Corzine suggested. It wouldn't be easy to merge the police departments; their rules for hiring and promoting differ. But the two municipalities already share an emergency-dispatch system. Mullica's resolution reflects Mayor William Kennedy's comments last week. Kennedy had spoken matter-of-factly about the state's Department of Community Affairs arranging the study and funding it in full. However, DCA spokesman Chris Donnelly said only that some grant money is available for shared-services studies, for which the municipalities themselves would have to seek bids. The bill says the township "would like to have a feasibility study implemented and paid for" by the state. n When: 7 p.m. today. n Where: Municipal building, 4528 White Horse Pike, Elwood section of the township. n What's expected: The bill is likely to pass, as predicted last week by committee members of both parties. n What comes next: Egg Harbor City's council will consider a similar resolution at its meeting Thursday night.
