Subject: Rumors: I have to say something about this. Mr. Angel, you and you alone are to blame for the whole Tom Carl rumor issue. If this rumor has really been circulating for four years or more, most people, until reading your posting "Subject: Election" probably didn't even know about it. You were the one who responded to the posting about Mr. Carl's credentials by bringing up the rumor, never once did the posting mention any rumor. You brought it up and to cover your own ass for being an ass decided to keep pushing it. Now, thanks to your site, what may have been an ugly rumor amongst a few people, is now out there because of your posting and your site. Now many of us who had no idea that this rumor ever existed are left to wonder if there is possibly any validity to it. So sit back and pat yourself on the back for defending Mr. Carl and the ugly rumor which you have perpetuated. Mr. Carl and his family have no one to blame but you Larry for giving this rumor legs.
RESPONSE: There is more than a kernel of truth in your comments...and I feel badly for the Carl family that this FALSE rumor has been more widely circulated as a result of my actions. It is a FALSE rumor and after verifying that fact with the authorities...I felt that it was better to shine the truth on what I was hearing repeated regularly with the campaign for the School Board in full swing.
You are correct that most readers of GadFly more than likely had NOT heard the FALSE rumor before and thus in addressing its veracity the ugly rumor spread more widely...in the context, I would hope, of it being false. When one is a candidate for a contested office, either locally, or nationally...this is what can happen...whether their are skeletons in one's closet or not.
I would not claim to know the Carl family ... but my impression is they have the maturity to put this in an adult context and move on. If the family has suffered stress as result of this...yes, I feel badly ... but would handle the situation pretty much the same. And again I point you to what seems to be the original source of the FALSE rumor in Town Hall...'a Republican man.'

Mullica Township is a Pine Barren community without a town newspaper or news letter, no televised or internet committee meetings and no press reporters at the meetings.
The Gadfly tries to fill the void by alerting the residents of meetings, events and articles of local interest from various sources. Most importantly, it gives a voice to the people. All residents are invited to share their opinions with anonymity or signed under each article posted.
Everyone is invited to send in articles of interest, announcements, letters of your concerns or opinions and even tips about what's going on in your neighborhood that needs investigation.
